Man Utd news: United chiefs have Real Madrid and Chelsea expectations about Jose Mourinho
MANCHESTER UNITED chiefs do not expect Jose Mourinho to suffer ‘third-season syndrome’ like he did at Chelsea and Real Madrid.
Pogba could push Mourinho out of Old Trafford suggest pundits
Manchester United boss Mourinho’s erratic behaviour has prompted fans to worry that a repeat of what happened at Chelsea and Real Madrid may be about to unfold.
The 55-year-old has cut a frustrated and sullen figure so far this season, with much of his anger seemingly stemming from the Red Devils’ failure to land his top transfer targets.
That has led to some concern that Mourinho will leave his post as manager by the end of the current season.
But Sky Sports say Manchester United are convinced the Portuguese still has the appetite and drive to be a success at Old Trafford.
It is claimed they do not expect a repeat of what happened at Chelsea and Real Madrid.
At both clubs, Mourinho was gone by the time his third season was finished.
Chelsea axed Mourinho is December 2015 after the club had gone from Premier League champions to relegation strugglers.
And he parted company with Real Madrid two years before that after high-profile arguments with the likes of Sergio Ramos, Iker Casillas and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Mourinho has not stayed for more than three seasons at one club since his first spell at Chelsea, where he left early into his fourth campaign.
They claim the Red Devils feel that Mourinho was axed after letting his standards slip at Real and Chelsea - whereas he is yet to win the title with United.
Mourinho signed a new contract until 2020 back in March.
And, speaking at the time, he said: "I am really honoured and proud to be Manchester United manager.
Mourinho: Injured players won't be back for Brighton clash
“I would like to say a big thank you to the owners and to Mr Woodward for the recognition of my hard work and dedication.
"I am delighted they feel and trust that I am the right manager for this great club for the foreseeable future.
“We have set very high standards - winning three trophies in one season - but those are the standards I expect my teams to aim for.
"We are creating the conditions for a brilliant and successful future for Manchester United."
