Paul Pogba: Manchester United star still wants Barcelona move despite replacement issues
MANCHESTER UNITED star Paul Pogba still reportedly wants to join Barcelona despite the Red Devils being unable to sign a replacement.
Manchester United star Pogba has emerged as a top Barcelona transfer target with the window for La Liga clubs shutting on August 31.
The Red Devils star has a strained relationship with Jose Mourinho, something that agent Mino Raiola has used to his advantage.
Manchester United did not try and sign a Pogba replacement during the summer, but did welcome Fred to Old Trafford from Shakhtar Donetsk.
Reports have claimed Pogba wants to join Barcelona to team up with Lionel Messi and former Juventus team-mate Arturo Vidal.
And Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo say that, despite United being unable to sign a replacement, the 25-year-old still wants out.
The Red Devils signed the France star from Juventus two years ago for £89million.
But, since then, he has failed to live up to his lofty price tag.
His relationship with Mourinho has plummeted over the last few months and there are fears at Old Trafford he may be shown the door.
Mourinho has shown in the past he is not afraid to cut big players loose if they fail to buy into his methods.
Man Utd: Sam Allardyce says club should 'sell Paul Pogba'
And Mundo Deportivo say the rift between the two United heavyweights has given Barcelona optimism.
They are prepared to bide their time and then pounce when the opportunity presents itself.
United have been linked with Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic as a Pogba replacement.
However, speaking yesterday, the president of the Serie A side did his best to deter their Premier League counterparts from making a move.
“Milinkovic-Savic is the best young player in the world and has huge potential to improve further,” Claudio Lotito told Corriere dell Sera.
“So far no one has come forward.
“I have not received official offers either from [AC] Milan, Juventus, Real Madrid or Manchester United.
“Of course I do not want to sell, but if you asked me how much he is worth, I will remind you that last year I refused a €110 million offer.
“How much was Pogba sold to Manchester United? 110 million? Milinkovic-Savic is worth more, because he is much better.”
