Liverpool transfer news: Danny Ings update as Reds set asking price
LIVERPOOL striker Danny Ings looks unlikely to get a deadline day move with clubs unwilling to meet the Reds’ asking price, a report claims.
Southampton target Danny Ings scores in pre-season friendly
Ings was one the names expected to leave Anfield this summer after failing to gain regular football under Jurgen Klopp.
Several Premier League clubs were reported to be interested with Crystal Palace and Southampton believed to be the leading the chase.
However, according to the Liverpool Echo, the Reds value Ings at £20million but interested clubs are not prepared to match that price.
As a result, the 26-year-old looks increasingly likely to start the season as a Liverpool player.
The former Burnley striker made 14 appearances across all competitions last term, scoring one goal.
There could be more competition up front this term, though, as Daniel Sturridge appears to be rediscovering his old form after some fine pre-season displays.
And the Liverpool manager has suggested the 28-year-old could play a role this season.
"Daniel is an outstanding player,” Klopp said.
“If he is fit, he will play a role in the team."
Meanwhile, at the other end of the pitch, Klopp is not concerned by his defensive options heading into the opening weekend of the season, despite being able to field only one senior centre-back in the 3-1 friendly win over Torino.
"I think (Joe Gomez) is OK. It is nothing serious but it was not possible tonight as he played on Saturday," he said.
"Dejan (Lovren) is in but he's not had a long holiday [after the World Cup final].
"For Raggy (Klavan) and Joel it is probably not good enough as they are not fit for the weekend but we don't need 12 centre-halves."
Liverpool face West Ham on Sunday at Anfield (1.30pm).
