Tottenham transfer news: Deadline day plans revealed by BBC man, Grealish and Rose updates
TOTTENHAM are unlikely to rush into a deadline day signing just for the sake of it.
Tottenham is 'not the place' for Jack Grealish says McBride
That is according to the BBC's Ian Dennis, who says Spurs are set for a quiet transfer window.
Tottenham are yet to sign any first-team players for the news season as they keep an eye on their budget.
The club, who will play in the Champions League once again this season, are paying off the cost of their new stadium.
Few transfers were expected this summer because of their tight financial conditions but a deadline day deal was still hoped for among Spurs fans.
Yet BBC commentator Dennis has revealed doubts over Spurs signing anyone before the 5pm deadline.
"I don't think they will be busy," he said on 5Live. "They were linked with Jack Grealish of Aston Villa but that deal will not go through.
"From a Tottenham point of view they won't make a signing just to make a singing.
"Danny Rose has been linked with Schalke in Germany but there is no rush for that to happen today because in Germany the deadline is August 31.
"From a Tottenham point of view it's going to be a quiet day."
Spurs may be without some of their top stars for their first match of the season on Saturday against Newcastle.
England stars Harry Kane, Eric Dier, Kieran Trippier, Rose and Dele Alli have only just returned from their summer breaks following their exploits at the World Cup.
And Dennis reckons manager Mauricio Pochettino will give youth a chance this weekend.
"Because they had so many players at the World Cup, when they were in America on their pre-seaosn tour, Pochettino had a lot of faith in the youngsters coming through the system at Spurs.
"They don't need to make wholesale signings. Maybe one or two.
"You have to balance up with a quota of 25 for a Premier League and Champions League squad.
"That could have an impact of the harmony within the squad.
"They are not going to pay over the odds - (Daniel) Levy will not do that - and Pochettino, when everyone is back and fully recovered from the World Cup they will challenge once again."
