Mercedes to give Sebastien Ogier and Valentino Rossi F1 chance
Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff has confirmed he wants to get two of motorsport’s biggest names into his car.
The German, who is currently trying to fill the vacant seat left by Nico Rosberg, is eying test drives with seven-time MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi and four-time world rally champion Sebastien Ogier.
Sebastien Ogier is expected to find an F1 car very different from his normal ride
And while neither is expected to be offered the job full-time, Wolff has admitted it is an exciting prospect to get them behind his wheel.
“F1 also is about entertainment,” Wolff told Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.
“And I would love to test the ability of Valentino Rossi and Sebastien Ogier behind the wheel of our machines.
“Also because we are the opposite of complacent right now.
“We are so motivated, we have everything behind us and I feel like it will be a massive push with a lot of energy.
“With [engine supplier] Renault it really feels like they have fed off their improvements this year and everyone is just like '2017, let's go and push it up'.
“Obviously Mercedes will be quick, but maybe they have the ability to become a bit complacent, whereas we are the opposite of that right now."
