Sebastian Vettel may lose F1 title to Fernando Alonso
FERRARI are evaluating footage that could lead to Sebastian Vettel being stripped of his third world Formula One title.
The Red Bull driver won the drivers’ championship by three points from Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso, after placing sixth in the final race on Sunday in Brazil.
But Ferrari are considering lodging an appeal with the sport’s governing body, FIA , after looking at footage from Vettel’s on-board camera.
They believe it shows the German driver overtaking the Toro Rosso of Jean-Eric Vergne in a yellow caution zone – an area where overtaking is not allowed.
That would incur a 20-second time penalty and give Ferrari driver Alonso the title by just a point instead.
Alonso said on Twitter: “I don’t believe in miracles. I make my miracles out of the correct rules.”
