Lewis Hamilton has given his verdict on the Singapore Grand Prix through a Mercedes press release after skipping his post-race interviews.

The seven-time F1 world champion and his Silver Arrows team-mate George Russell failed to appear in front of the Sky Sports cameras in the aftermath of the race because they needed to “recover” instead.

Hamilton started the Grand Prix from P3 after impressing during qualifying on Saturday. And the 39-year-old began the afternoon on soft tyres in an attempt to move past Lando Norris and Max Verstappen early on.

But he wasn’t able to leapfrog the duo in the pecking order and was forced to pit for fresh rubber earlier than his rivals, which left him with older tyres at the end. He ultimately finished the race in P6.

Russell, meanwhile, ended the day in fourth place, with Mercedes releasing a statement afterwards that read: “Unfortunately neither George or Lewis will be attending the media pen this evening as they recover from the exertions from this evening's race.”

And the Brackley team later published a press release as Hamilton provided his thoughts on a tough day in southeast Asia.

“It is hard to describe the range of emotions you feel when we have a difficult race like that,” Hamilton explained.

“This year continues to be a testing one for everyone, but we are all pushing as hard as we can. We don't always get things right and that was the case today with our strategy.

“We all head into the weekend, and every decision we take, with the right intentions and sometimes it doesn't work out. It can be frustrating, but we are all in this together.”

Mercedes made huge progress ahead of the summer break following two underwhelming seasons as Russell won the Austrian Grand Prix before Hamilton tasted victory at Silverstone and in Belgium.

But the Silver Arrows have fallen away again since the season recommenced at the end of August.

And Hamilton added: “We have lost some form to the leaders in the past few races and we're working hard to figure out why that is.

“We will do what we do best though and that is to come together as a team, analyse and refocus ahead of Austin.

“We will head there with energy, drive, and determination. It's another opportunity to show what we can do when we get things right and to hopefully take a step forward with the car.”
