Formula E Diriyah ePrix Race Two results: Full classification – Sims wins as Bird crashes
Alexander Sims led from lights to flag in an otherwise chaotic Diriyah ePrix to seal his maiden Formula E victory and move top of the Drivers' Championship after two races.
Alexander Sims claimed his first ever Formula E victory in a thrilling Diriyah ePrix, leading home BMW i Andretti Motorsport team-mate Max Gunther and former champion Lucas di Grassi, although Gunther latter lost his podium following a post-race penalty.
Sims had secured his third pole position in the all-electric series during qualifying earlier in the day and masterfully controlled proceedings as chaos reigned behind with numerous drivers receiving penalties for racing and technical infringements.
Sebastien Buemi was tipped out of second place by a charging Antonio Felix da Costa while championship leader Sam Bird came together with Mitch Evans and was subsequently pitched into retirement by Pascal Wehrlein among a host of other wheel-to-wheel clashes.
Reigning champion Jean-Eric Vergne initially missed out on points again after serving an early drive-through penalty while Gunther came through from ninth on the grid for his first podium in the series and a BMW one-two – but a host of penalties saw Stoffel Vandoorne inherit his second rostrum finish of the weekend while Vergne, Brendon Hartley and Da Costa all moved into the top 10.
