Sebastian Vettel QUIT threat: Ferrari driver sensationally admits he may LEAVE Formula One
SEBASTIAN VETTEL could quit F1 at the end of next season, the Ferrari driver has confirmed.
Sebastian Vettel opens up on 'tricky' Bahrain Grand Prix
The German is sceptical of the regulation changes which may be introduced and is uncertain whether he will continue.
Vettel has not had a great start to the season and could only manage fifth in the Bahrain Grand Prix at the weekend.
The 31-year-old will definitely race this year and next for Ferrari though.
“I’m certain I really want to drive this year and next year, then I don't know what happens to the regulations,” he told The Times.
“Nobody knows so far. I certainly can't sit here and say, 'No [I won't leave]' just for the sake of being in Formula 1.”
Sebastian Vettel added: “A lot of the values that used to be around, they are only partly around.
“Formula 1 is now more a show and a business than a sport.
“You can say the same probably for other sports, but maybe in other sports it doesn't filter down as much to the actual athlete as much as it does here.
“There just needs to be [a decision about] what we want. If we say we are a show, then bring on the show.
“I feel we are wasting so much time and energy with regulations that are just expensive really for nothing.”
Vettel is facing a tough challenge this season with Charles Leclerc ready to prove he is on the same level as the former world champion.
Leclerc would have taken his first victory in the sport in Bahrain had it not been for an engine problem.
That allowed Lewis Hamilton to win ahead of Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas.
F1 returns with the Chinese Grand Prix between April 12 and 14.
Last year’s race was won by Daniel Ricciardo in the Red Bull.
That will give hope to Max Verstappen who has finished third and fourth in the opening two Grand Prix’s of the 2019 season.
