Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal celebrates
The Portuguese appeared to be on the brink of a shock exit from the tournament after falling behind to the plucky Hungarians on three occasions.
But two goals from Ronaldo levelled the match and takes them into the knockout stages where they will face Croatia.
And it means England and Iceland will play each other for the first time in a major tournament after the Icelanders sealed their place in the last 16 with a last gasp 2-1 win over Austria.
Arnor Ingvi Traustason slid in at the back post in stoppage time to give them victory.
The match will be played in Nice on Monday June 27 at 8pm.
Should England win they could face hosts France in the quarter-finals.
