Pakistan contact international coach to replace Waqar Younis after World T20 flop
AAQIB JAVED is favourite to take over as Pakistan coach after Waqar Younis resigned today.
Javed has worked in the Pakistan set-up before and is now favourite to replace Younis
Younis presented a scathing report to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on the state of Pakistani cricket after his side crashed out of the World T20.
Pakistan thrashed Bangladesh in their opening game of the tournament but were then convincingly beaten by Australia, New Zealand and fierce rivals India and were dumped out at the group stage.
And while Shahid Afridi is considering his won role having been captain for the competition, Younis brought his second spell as Pakistan coach to an end citing his frustrations with the PCB and their failure to take on board his recommendations.
United Arab Emirates head coach Javed has been installed as favourite to replace him.
A former Pakistani Test bowler himself, Javed had previously been bowling coach of the national team under Younis, but quit in 2012 to take the top job in the UAE.
But now the 43-year-old has admitted he has been contacted by PCB in relation to a return to his native country.

“I am definitely looking for this job if they consider me," Aaqib told UAE newspaper The National.
“I have worked really hard for the past 15 years, have learned a lot, and UAE has really helped me a lot.
“They rang me about a week ago and said ‘we are considering you as one of the candidates for the head coach job for the Pakistan team if Waqar goes’.
"I still believe I am one of the candidates."
