Alastair Cook could step down as England cricket captain
ALASTAIR COOK revealed yesterday he will consider his position as England cricket captain after another heavy defeat by Australia brought a swift loss of the one-day series.
He was adamant he will lead the team in the final two ODI matches later this week in Perth and Adelaide, but said he will then review his future when he returns home.
This is a clear change of tone from a fortnight ago when Cook had insisted he definitely wanted to continue as Test skipper despite the Ashes whitewash.
“I am going to have take stock and make a decision on that stuff [the captaincy] after the next two games,” said Cook, clearly numbed by the latest setback Down Under.
“We will sit down and talk about a lot of things. I think there will be some changes. I think English cricket needs change.
“I can’t answer questions about captaincy now in the middle of a series. I don’t know what I’m going to feel like when I get home.
“It has been two weeks since someone asked me this, and a lot has happened in those two weeks. We have kept losing games of cricket, and I haven’t been able to turn it around.”
