New Zealand pair Daniel Vettori and Jeetan Patel warned for late-night boozing
FORMER New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori and spinner Jeetan Patel have been reprimanded for their late-night drinking antics.
Vettori is recovering from an Achilles injury and Patel was playing for the New Zealand XI against England - put the pair went out to Queenstown after the first day of the game.
Patel went for 122 runs in 21 wicket-less overs and missed the second day's play after suffering mild concussion following an alleged altercation with a bouncer outside a bar.
Patel said: "I am sorry for my behaviour that evening and I accept that it was totally inappropriate for me to be out drinking during a match where I was representing my country."
The NZC have warned both players and called their behaviour "completely unacceptable".
Vettori said: "My behaviour was completely unprofessional in going out and I should have spent time with Jeetan in another way. I would like to apologise to the NZ Cricket medical team, who I was there to work with, and to anyone else who is disappointed in my behaviour."
Doug Bracewell was left out the side for the first Test with England after sustaining a foot injury at a house party.
Last year Bracewell and Jesse Ryder were dropped after breaking team protocol banning the consumption of alcohol. Ryder has not played for New Zealand since.
