ENGLAND bowler James Anderson hasn’t returned to the field for the second innings of the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston, after suffering from a calf injury on Day One.
James Anderson takes his 500th Test wicket
England star James Anderson hasn't returned to the field for the second innings of the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston.
Anderson was forced off of the pitch after Lunch on Day One after developing a calf injury.
He briefly returned to action for the end of England's batting innings, making three runs before being caught.
But, he didn't head out of the pavillion with the rest of the England team, instead being replaced by Sam Curran
It was revealed earlier today that Anderson’s injury wasn’t as bad previously feared.
His initial scan showed didn’t show “anything untoward”, according to former England star David Lloyd.
‘Jimmy’ could only manage four overs before being forced off with the injury on Day One.
But, he was previously seen running and bowling before play on both Friday and Saturday at Edgbaston.
"From England’s viewpoint, there's still a fair amount of will he or won’t he from Jimmy Anderson,” Lloyd said on Sky Sports commentary.
“We saw him running yesterday. Just hearing that the scan he went for is not showing anything untoward.
“They talked about a general tightness, he didn’t bowl after that four overs in Australia’s first innings.
“It might just be better news.”
Anderson apologised to his England team-mates after he was told he shouldn’t play on, according to Stuart Broad.
“He feels like he has let the bowling group down - but he hasn’t,” said Anderson’s fellow bowler.
Broad told BBC Radio 5 Live: “He is a bit quiet and a bit frustrated.
“He came up to the bowlers and said sorry, but there is nothing to be sorry about.
"We don't know the full extent yet. All we can hope is the news is better than we expect.”
