Boxing news: Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury twist, Frank Warren fumes, Canelo in the UK
Boxing news - Express Sport brings you the latest ongoings in the boxing world, including updates on Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury and Canelo Alvarez.
Boxing news - Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury development
Anthony Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn has claimed the coronavirus could lead to the eagerly-anticipated Battle of Britain with Tyson Fury coming to fruition earlier than expected.
"Well I think, all of a sudden, does the Joshua-Fury fight start taking priority, maybe over a [Kubrat] Pulev fight, if the Pulev fight extends beyond the summer," the Matchroom Boxing chief said during an appearance on Sky Sports. "There's so much that could happen right now.
"I mean anything is possible, but contractually Deontay Wilder is going to want his fight next.
"Whether that's in July or whether there's a force majeure that takes that to October, November wherever.
"Right now, for us, we're fighting Kubrat Pulev, June 20, and it could be July 25.
"But everything is uncertain at the moment, whilst the country and the world tries to contain this pandemic."
Boxing news - Frank Warren hits out at Tyson Fury cover-up claim
I think, all of a sudden, does the Joshua-Fury fight start taking priority, maybe over a [Kubrat] Pulev fight
Frank Warren has dismissed a Lancashire farmer's claim Team Fury offered him a £25,000 bribe to lie about providing Tyson and Hughie with tainted meat after the pair tested positive for nandrolone metabolites in 2015.
"I got a letter last September from this farmer making all these allegations about Tyson’s UKAD case," Warren wrote in his talkSPORT column.
"In the letter he said he’d lied and signed statements under oath, which is perjury.
"I wasn’t involved with Tyson back at the time of this case, but I asked Tyson about it – he said he’d never heard of him, never knew him, and that was it.
The farmer said he was promised money, £25,000. So he was prepared to lie, according to this letter, for £25,000. We spoke and told him to go and see UKAD if he’s got a problem.
"Obviously he chose not to do that and has gone to a newspaper instead. They rang us on a Friday night with their story, which they must’ve had for a while, doing their best to prevent anybody from stopping it going out.
"Given the fact that there was no sport on, they made a big thing of it and gave it a big splash.
"But they’re relying on the word of an admitted liar and perjurer, whatever way you want to look at it. From my perspective it’s ridiculous."
Boxing news - Canelo Alvarez vs Billy Joe Saunders twist
Billy Joe Saunders' middleweight title clash with Canelo Alvarez could end up taking place in May 2021 due to the coronavirus outbreak, it has been claimed.
The WBO middleweight champion was due to take on the Mexican in Las Vegas on Cinco de Mayo weekend, though the global pandemic has likely scuppered those plans.
And the Daily Mail claim Canelo will likely turn his attention to his September trilogy fight with Gennady Golovkin should the fight be postponed and that he could end up facing Saunders in the UK next May.
