Will Tyson Fury gatecrash Deontay Wilder vs Luis Ortiz 2? Coach tells all
Deontay Wilder rematches Luis Ortiz in Las Vegas early on Sunday morning.
Tyson Fury won’t be ringside for Deontay Wilder’s clash with Luis Ortiz, his head coach Ben Davison has revealed.
WBC heavyweight champion Wilder rematches the Cuban at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas early on Sunday morning.
Should Wilder get past ‘King Kong’, he’ll set up a rematch with Fury, whom he fought to a memorable draw last December.
With their paths seemingly set to cross again, many boxing fans expected Fury to make the trip across the pond to take in Wilder’s latest outing in person.
But according to Davison, ’The Gypsy King’ won’t be travelling to Sin City.
“No,” Davison told Boxing Social when asked if Fury will attend the fight. "He’s having a well-earned bit of rest now."
Unlike Fury, Davison will be ringside for Wilder vs Ortiz II.
He said: “I’m going over there because if I can see one thing, and pick up just one thing that I didn’t see and haven’t seen while watching hours upon hours upon hours of him, then it’s worth it.
No. He’s having a well-earned bit of rest now.
“In this game, one per cent can make a difference. The margin of errors are so small, so for me to go over there [is important].
“I could have just flown over there on the Friday and watched the fight but I also want to watch the media workout, see if I can see something, and like I say if I can spot one thing it’s worth it.”
Davison is confident Fury will get the better of ‘The Bronze Bomber’ if they share the ring again, saying: "Tyson has a fantastic skill-set and we had a fantastic game-plan.
"There were questions: how will Tyson deal with doing the rounds, at that level, after losing the weight?
“It was his first real test since the weight loss so we had to add that into the game-plan. [Next] time, it won't be an issue.
"It's no secret what threat Wilder poses but our job is to exploit his weaknesses and take away his strengths.
"The reality is, although on paper it says a draw, 99 percent of the boxing world agrees that Tyson won that fight.
"In Tyson's heart, he knows that he won. But he wants to cement it."
