Boxing results: Anthony Yarde stopped by Sergey Kovalev in Russia clash
Anthony Yarde takes on Sergey Kovalev in Russia for the WBO light-heavyweight world title. Express Sport are on hand to run you through the night's events.
Sergey Kovalev was ordered by the WBO to defend against mandatory challenger Anthony Yarde back in March.
And after months of negotiating, back and forth and interruptions, the stage is finally set. The Traktor Sport Palace in Chelyabinsk, Russia will host the 175lbs bout.
Plenty are questioning Yarde’s mettle, having never been tested at esteemed world champion Kovalev’s level before.
The 28-year-old, though, remains confident as ever and promises to bring world title gold back to London on Sunday morning.
He told Express Sport: “This is nothing to do with Kovalev being past it because from what I saw in his last fight he looked good. He was cutting shapes, throwing angles, he was throwing a lot of punches, he looked powerful and strong. He didn't look like no old Kovalev to me. He's not more motivated than me, though.
"Kovalev doesn't exist to me, it's about me, I've watched his fights, I was a fan, but I'm going to go out there and make a quick job of it, that's not me bragging or being arrogant. I believe whatever you put in your mind is going to happen.
"That's all that's on my mind, KO, Anthony Yarde wins, Anthony Yarde jumps on the top rope and says 'If you smell what The Rock is cooking'."
Elsewhere on the card, former Tony Bellew opponent Ilunga Makabu defends his WBC silver cruiserweight title against Aleksei Papin.
