DEONTAY WILDER has blasted Tyson Fury as “pathetic” for “beating a dead horse with the mental illness thing”, ahead of their WBC world heavyweight title rematch.
Tyson Fury claims he ‘won’ fight against Deontay Wilder
Deontay Wilder has said that Tyson Fury overcoming mental health problems is old news.
The WBC heavyweight champion said that it’s pathetic that Fury keeps talking about his history with depression.
Many people have overcome mental health difficulties, and the Brit is simply clinging onto a story line.
Wilder was speaking ahead of the expected rematch between the pair, which is yet to be officially announced.
It’s a thing that can be overcome
“The only thing he really has to go off of is beating a dead horse with the mental illness thing, that’s it,” the WBC heavyweight champ told 78SportsTV.
“But he’s going to find in America that’s yesterday’s news, that’s an old story, in America we want what’s fresh and what’s new.
“There are millions who have faced this illness.
“It’s a thing that can be overcome, so many people have overcome it, he wants to come up with this story, it’s something he’s holding on to, the mental illness thing is dying out.
“As you can see in his last fight, it says it all, his story paints itself, it tells its own story.
“It’s pathetic what he’s doing but as long people are entertained he’s going to continue to do it, but once it dies down he may change his ways.”
Fury spent almost three years out of the ring after reaching his “Everest” by beating Wladimir Klitschko in November 2015.
He claimed the IBF, WBA and WBO titles by winning the fight, buts forced to relinquish them after testing positive for a banned steroid.
He confessed to taking cocaine in the years after the Klitschko fight, and even claimed the he hated boxing.
Speaking ahead of his return to the ring in June last year, Fury said: “I woke up every day wishing I would not wake up any more.
“But I am living proof anyone can come back from the brink.
“There is a lot of people out there suffering with mental health problems who think all their days will be grey, but life can improve again and you will start to enjoy the little things again.”
