Boxing news: Anthony Joshua criticism, Amir Khan verdict, Deontay Wilder defiant statement
BOXING NEWS - Express Sport brings you the latest ongoings in the boxing world.
Anthony Joshua’s team criticised by Dana White
UFC president Dana White has claimed Anthony Joshua’s team haven’t done a good job marketing ‘AJ’, who he’s adamant should be a superstar by now.
“I would like that,” White told CNN when asked if Joshua will be hearing from him in the near future.
“Right now, Anthony Joshua should be a huge star in the United States too. But he’s not.”
He later added: “I think that the heavyweight division has been so boring for so long. Ever since Tyson left.
“When Tyson left, oh my god, we had the Klitschko brothers in there. A nightmare. And now, a guy like Anthony Joshua is exactly what the sport needs.
“I like everything about the guy. A couple of tweaks to the moves they’re making with his career and this guy could be a huge superstar.”
Amir Khan makes Terence Crawford admission
Anthony Joshua should be a huge star in the United States too. But he’s not.
Former WBA and IBF light-welterweight champion Amir Khan believes a win over Terence Crawford on Sunday morning will eclipse everything he’s done in his 14-year boxing career.
"A win here would top everything," Khan said. "Now I'm reaching for something no-one really expected me to reach."
Khan faces Crawford at Madison Square Garden in New York and added: “I remember when the legends fought at Madison Square Garden.
"I'd watch fight previews from here over and over. I'm living that now.
“I want to win this so badly now just to prove a point."
Deontay Wilder makes heavyweight division statement
WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has insisted he is the true ruler of the division and declared he won’t be happy until all the belts are in his possession.
“There will come a day, a day real soon, when there can only be one,” said Wilder.
"The heavyweight division belongs to me and I’ve known that for a very long time now, but I’m not satisfied with what I’ve achieved so far.
“I want every single belt, I want to be the undisputed champion.
"I’ve fought and hurt every single person that’s been in the ring with me and still they want questions answered.
“I’ve proven time and again that I will fight any heavyweight, but when it’s as big as me and Joshua then it has to be right.”
