Joshua didn't look comfortable in the early rounds as blood smeared across his face, while Povetkin enjoyed a flying start to proceedings.
He returned to his corner to get cleaned up, but blood continued to emerge throughout the fight.
AJ dealt damage against Alexander Povetkin, with the Russian suffering a cut above the left eye.
The 39-year-old veteran fighter didn't appear to be affected by the cut, but Joshua pushed him harder in the middle rounds.
