Great British Bake Off's Val bats off Paul Hollywood and SINGS to cakes in episode one
IT’S only week one and already there is a clear favourite Great British Bake Off contestant among viewers, and that baker is Val.
Val reveals her secret to cooking the perfect cake on GBBO
The 66-year-old from Somerset whipped up a humungous fan base as viewers fell in love with her terrific two-step to Ed Sheeran and peculiar talent of singing to her cakes, who let her know when they’ve risen enough to be freed from the oven.
"They sing. They said they're not ready,” she said, as she patiently waited for her tangy orange drizzle cake to give her the thumbs up.
Taking Paul Hollywood’s criticism in her stride, she batted the judge away when she couldn’t open the lid to her ingredients.
"I'm beginning this well," she gleefully enthused. "It's alright, Paul. I've got it, Paul."
Val won the hearts of a nation in episode one of Great British Bake Off
They sing. They said they're not ready
During the first instalment, the excitable grandmother was swiftly hailed as the “Cake Whisperer” by fans, who were enamoured by her aerobics and quirky signature style.
“Val is my favourite hands down, I love how she thinks the cakes sing to her,” beamed one ecstatic audience member, as another agreed: “Val for the win! Nothing to do with her skill, just seems like my kind of gal.”
Another cried: “Val is my spirit animal,” which was followed: “Val is honestly the most precious person in this world. I'm so grateful.”
This comical fan wrote: “I wish people listened to me as much as Val listens to her cakes.”

Sadly, it seems Val's time in the tent could be cut short after a pretty dismal week one
And a sixth followed: “Val has become my favourite person in about 30 seconds.”
Sadly, judging by her opening performance it seems the culinary heroine won’t be hanging around the Bake Off tent for too long, after narrowly missing out on becoming the first baker to be eliminated from the process, with Reverend Lee wining the unwanted accolade.
Elsewhere, viewers couldn’t get enough of the 20 racy innuendoes that filtered through todays’ particularly saucy offering of the BBC programme, with Kate’s love of a “good cox” becoming the talking point on social media.
Great British Bake Off continues next week at 8pm on BBC One.
