The actor, who stars as King Louis XIV's brother Monsieur Philippe d'Orléans, claimed the raunchy segments are "tame" compared to similar dramas.
Instead, the 28-year-old wants to bring attention to the young cast involved in the period piece by Canal +, currently airing on BBC Two.
When asked about the intimate portrayal of life at court, Alexander exclusively told Express.co.uk: "The sexual and raunchy aspect of the show is very tame in comparison to other shows that are out there at the moment."
The TV star continued: "The reaction is because it was on the BBC – a new thing that they’re exploring.
