The fog appeared in the middle of the shot for a few minutes and frustrated fans were left unable to see the footage.
The report, which saw journalist Steph McGoven meet various different animals, was completely distorted by the thick smoke and angry viewers took to social media to vent their frustrations.
One blasted: "@BBCBreakfast Take it off. We don't want to look at fog for 10 minutes!! #fail."
While others complained: "#bbcbreakfast Interesting watching Steph at Chester Zoo but problems with the camera. Try using a hair dryer on the lens," and: "@BBCBreakfast ZOO FOG Next time layer of clear clingfilm stretched tight over lens surround ie not touching glass #tropicalisation."

After the incident was resolved, another viewer added: "@BBCBreakfast finally we can see the zoo. Cameraman is rubbish."

BBC journalist Rebecca Wearn took her Twitter page to excuse the technical glitch, and wrote: "Chuffed to say - after 15mins under a hand dryer - our lens is clear @BBCBreakfast #ProducerProblems #monkeybusiness."
Steph, who seemed oblivious onscreen, later apologised to viewers saying: "Having a nightmare with the lens this morning! @chesterzoo @BBCBreakfast."
