The special sees the presenters go back to where it all started for them in Newcastle and the programme that launched their career.
Standing on the set of Byker Grove, the pair reflect back on their careers in television.
Dec said: "We had some of the happiest time of our life here. We wouldn't be where we are without it… I'm getting a bit emotional thinking about it."
They met up with fellow Geordie Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, who shared her experiences as an ambassador for The Princes' Trust and explained the importance of helping young people get involved with the local community.

The pair were given close access to Prince Charles to learn more about the trust
The singer revealed: "If I wasn't lucky enough to come to dance classes or have that discipline instilled in me, I could have gone down any route."
While Ant agreed with the brunette beauty, Dec joked: "I think I was always going to be alright."
For the 90-minute documentary, the stars were given close access to HRH The Prince of Wales as they accompanied him on a number of engagements and learned more about the passion the Prince has for the trust he founded in 1976.

Cheryl told the duo why she thinks The Princes' Trust is important
Since it began, the trust has helped more than 800,000 disadvantaged and vulnerable young people more into work or education.
Talking about Prince Charles and his work, Ant said: "The thing for me is he's had his critics, he's still got his critics, but you can't deny that the work he's done with The Princes' Trust… it just works, he's helped people, he continues to help people and good for him."
Dec added: "There are those that will say he was born into this posit of privilege and he can't possibly empathise with the normal man on the street and the issues that face the ordinary man, but I think he can."
When Ant and Dec Met The Prince: 40 Years of The Prince's Trust airs tonight on ITV at 9pm.
