Amanda Abbington 'gutted' as Cuffs is cancelled after one series
AMANDA ABBINGTON has revealed that BBC One cop drama Cuffs has been axed by the BBC after just one series.
Cuffs won't be back for another series
The show, which concluded last night, starred the Sherlock star alongside the likes of Ashley Walters, Alex Carter and Eleanor Matsuura as police officers in Brighton.
The eight-part series attracted lacklustre ratings, presumably convincing BBC bosses not to commission another set of episodes.
"End of an era. And we are all gutted," Amanda tweeted. "Thanks to a wonderful cast, crew and fans. No series two. Sad day."
She later added: "Thanks for all your support and tweets regarding #cuffs. You're all so great. Bless ya. We will miss it so much."
Eleanor Matsuura stars in the drama
Jacob Ifan was one of the central actors
Thanks to a wonderful cast, crew and fans. No series two. Sad day
Alex wrote on his own page: "Thank u 4all the #Cuffs love. It really was the perfect job & team, such a shame it's not getting a second series."
Eleanor, meanwhile, posted a GIF showing character Jake (Jacob Ifan) saying "That was amazing", adding: "When y'all thought Series 1 was amazing but you have to break the news there's no Series 2 #Cuffs @CuffsTV."
She also posted an image of her character looking unimpressed, captioning it: "When they recommission some total balls but your show get cancelled…
"But seriously: hugest THANK U to my incredible #Cuffs family and all the fans. You've been brilliant. I'll always be so proud of our show."
The Cuffs cast are all disappointed by the news
Jacob paid tribute to the short-lived project, too, posting: "Thank you to everyone for all the kind words and support over the last 8 weeks, so sad that cuffs won't be returning, so happy it happened."
There has not been a formal announcement from the BBC as yet.
Opening with a mediocre 4.2 million viewers, Cuffs had dipped to 2.5 million earlier this month.
