TV Pick of the day: Heston's Great British Food
BRITAIN is home to some of the most iconic dishes in the world, from fish and chips to roast beef and Yorkshire pudding.
In this new three-part series Heston Blumenthal takes one dish per episode, reveals its secret history and then uses what he’s learned as inspiration for a culinary salute.
In this first episode Blumenthal discovers how the industrial age fuelled the growth of chip shops and reveals the heyday of “fish Friday” and the part fish and chips played during the Second World War.
He talks to some of the ancestors of those Brixham fishermen who lost their lives during the war and turns a galleon into HMS Chippy, where he serves fish and chips a la Blumenthal to the people who make it all possible: the fishermen and the chip-shop workers.
