‘Masterpiece’ Netflix crime drama perfect for Endeavour and Vera fans now streaming

Viewers looking for a compelling detective drama can stop scrolling now.

One Netflix crime drama described as a “masterpiece” is perfect for those who love the long-running ITV shows Endeavour and Vera.

In a Reddit thread asking for recommendations about what to watch after the Inspector Morse prequel series Morse wrapped up, one person suggested a whole list of crime dramas, including Broadchurch, Vera and The Chestnut Man on Netflix.

While the first two suggestions are British crime drama staples, The Chestnut Man is darker than its counterparts and is likely to have flown under the radar for even the most avid TV fans.

Falling into a similar dark vein to True Detective, The Chestnut Man is a Danish drama series following two detectives as they track down a serial killer, who leaves sinister figurines made of chestnuts at the crime scene.

The police duo will be working against the clock to hunt down the murderer after the killer is linked to the child of a missing politician.

The Scandi-noir, which is also known as Kastanjemanden, has been previously been praised by audience members on IMDb.

One person titled their 10/10: “Another danish thriller masterpiece” and explained: “Just wow. I watched all episodes today and time just passed by. This is gripping, intense and captivating like Forbrydelsen and Broen [sic].”

While another person gave the show 9/10 and wrote: “I loved this show. It keep me very interested. A must watch [sic].”

Another person gave a similar rating and hailed it as a “Netflix hidden gem” as they explained: “If you are into crime and thriller series then this is a great roller-coaster ride. Loved the acting, story and the landscape of Denmark just makes this thing a bliss to the eyes. Just watch it in the original language.”

Someone else compared it to Danish classic crime drama Broen or The Bridge and gave it 9/10.

The explained: “It's not Bron, yes, but the acting is outstanding and the story absolutely horryfying! If you loved Bron, Forbrydelsen or Springfloden, you'll like this one! [sic].”
