Fallout returns in season two trailer from Prime Video

The eagerly awaited second series of Prime Video's live-action Fallout is finally upon us, introducing one of the most significant characters from the original games to date.

Both fans and critics have lauded the show as one of the finest screen adaptations of a video game, earning it an impressive 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes for its inaugural season. It stands shoulder to shoulder with acclaimed adaptations like HBO's The Last Of Us, setting a high bar for how to do it right.

While the TV series draws inspiration from the massively popular franchise of the same name, it carves out its own unique narrative. As we left off at the end of the first series, Lucy continues her quest to find her father, aided by her Ghoul companion who grapples with his own past.

The upcoming second series will transport the characters to New Vegas, the setting of one of the franchise's most beloved games. Alongside this shift in location, viewers can expect the introduction of a major new character: Robert House, also known as Mr House.

But who exactly is Robert House, what role did he play in New Vegas, and how will he fit into the Prime Video series? Here's everything you need to know.

Who is Robert House?

Robert Edwin House was the founder and CEO of RobCo Industries, a multibillion-dollar robotics and software corporation. Under his leadership, the company grew to become one of the largest and most influential computer and robotics corporations in the pre-War United States , reports the Mirror.

The software utilised by all terminals in the Fallout universe, as well as robots, was created by them. These were sold to the average American and also produced for the United States military through defence contracts.

Robert's substantial wealth allowed him to acquire other businesses, including the Lucky 38 Hotel and Casino on Las Vegas Boulevard. It is here that he used his life-preservation technology to survive the nuclear fallout and witness the wasteland that followed.

What role does Robert House play in Fallout New Vegas?

Depending on the player's choices, their actions can lead to Mr House taking control of the rest of New Vegas. Alternatively, they can thwart all of his plans if they so choose.

Who portrays Robert House in the Fallout TV series?

While the character made an appearance in the first season, he has been recast for a more significant role in the second season. Justin Theroux will now assume the role.

Theroux's past roles include The Leftovers and Mulholland Drive. He is also a renowned writer, having written Tropic Thunder and Iron Man.

The opening episode of series two appears to weave this casting change into the narrative itself.

Crucial scenes hint that House deploys a stand-in or body double for crucial gatherings, potentially as a security measure, whilst he monitors proceedings from afar.

Theroux was persuaded to accept the part by Walton Goggins, who portrays the Ghoul.

According to GQ, despite never having viewed the programme or experienced the games firsthand, he studied character gameplay footage on YouTube for inspiration.

What part does House play in the Fallout Prime Video television series?

Showrunners Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Jonathan Nolan revealed to the publication their fascination with delving into House as a character, particularly before the Great War commenced.

This curiosity stemmed from House's intrinsic connection to Vegas, having already selected it as series two's principal backdrop.

Furthermore, they viewed House's character as particularly pertinent to today's world in 2025, during an era when "very wealthy technocrats have undue influence in the world".

Fallout is streaming on Prime Video.
