Gen V: Season two official trailer

Gen V enthusiasts are desperate to discover whether a third series of Prime Video's acclaimed spin-off from The Boys is on the horizon.

The second instalment launched in September and concluded with a stunning finale this Wednesday (22nd October).

Numerous devotees have already watched to witness whether Marie Moreau (portrayed by Jaz Sinclair) managed to defeat the villainous Thomas Godolkin (Ethan Slater).

Additionally, there were unexpected appearances from beloved The Boys characters that will transition seamlessly into the epic confrontation with Homelander (Antony Starr) in the main series' fifth and concluding season.

With the latest chapter in The Boys universe having reached its conclusion, let's examine everything confirmed thus far regarding Gen V series three, reports the Mirror.

Will there be a third season of Gen V?

Currently, it remains uncertain whether Gen V will proceed with a third series as Prime Video has yet to provide the spin-off with an official recommission.

Circumstances are also uncertain for the programme as showrunner Michele Fazekas will be leaving to oversee the upcoming season of Law and Order: SVU, becoming the inaugural female showrunner for the NBC crime series.

Fazekas has also revealed in a recent Variety interview that the objective of Gen V's second series finale was principally to establish the concluding season of The Boys rather than advancing the Godolkin University narrative.

"Our task here was launching into The Boys, which doesn't really mean that there wouldn't be another season of Gen V," she clarified. "That's what's great about a college show - everyone's always going to college! But our task was to launch us into the new season of The Boys."

Despite the absence of a renewal, The Boys' creative genius Eric Kripke remains hopeful about Gen V's future.

Speaking to The Wrap, he explained that the continuation of Gen V largely depends on the number of Prime Video subscribers tuning in.

"We have a plan for Gen V season three, and we're psyched about it, but we need enough viewers to watch season two to justify season three," he disclosed.

"Now's the time that they're paying attention to the numbers. So don't watch even a year from now. Turn on Prime and watch it now.

"If enough people watch then we'll get a season three."

Kripke also offered some insight into the future of the forthcoming prequel spin-off that aims to reveal the origin stories of classic supes Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) and Stormfront (Aya Cash).

"Same applies to Vought Rising season one," he stated. "We have plans for a season two, if we can. They've been nothing but supportive, and they're giving us our opportunities.

"But it's a business and we also have to deliver. So hopefully the audience shows up."

Regrettably, the showrunner has also provided a disappointing update on The Boys' first ever spin-off, the animated anthology Diabolical.

"I don't think there's going to be a season two of Diabolical," he revealed.

"It's not for lack of us pushing. I think ultimately the viewer numbers weren't there to justify a second season, sadly."

The Boys and Gen V are available to stream on Prime Video.
