Tempers flared on Question Time as Labour’s Darren Jones clashed furiously with Reform UK’s Zia Yusuf—prompting host Fiona Bruce to step in and restore order. The fiery exchange unfolded during a debate over taxes when Yusuf claimed that Labour and the Conservatives were “exactly the same.”

Jones snapped back, saying he took “personal offence” at the remark, and accused Reform and the Conservatives of offering “simple answers to complex promises but do not tell you how they are going to do it.”

“Those are the questions you should be answering,” he fired back.

Yusuf retaliated, saying, “I tell you what’s offensive, insulting the intelligence of the British people,” to which Jones retorted: “I’m not insulting their intelligence, I’m insulting your intelligence.”

Things escalated further as Yusuf attempted to quiz Jones over council tax hikes. But each time he tried to speak, Jones repeatedly interrupted with, “How?” and “You won’t answer the question.”

With the confrontation reaching boiling point, Fiona Bruce had to physically intervene, tapping Jones on the shoulder and urging, “Let him speak… we’ll get to it.”

The panel, recorded in Fleetwood, also featured Conservative Simon Clarke and Liberal Democrat Sarah Olney

Viewers were quick to weigh in online, with one posting on X: “Darren a jones asks Zia Yusuf how Reform are going to fulfil their promises. Zia doesn’t answer the question.”

Another fumed: “Why are Reform on again? What is wrong with the BBC? And now he’s sounding off about Chagos. #bbcqt”

A third added: “#bbcqt FFS Reform AGAIN, Temu Trump tribute – pathetic.”

One user defended the choice, pointing out: “They are number 1 in all recent polls for intention to vote in GE – for last 6 weeks if not there be wrong.”

But the defence was quickly challenged, with another user firing back: “So what? Is choice of guest determined by opinion polls? If yes, there’d be no Tories on despite being the official opposition.”

The Labour MP continued his rant on the show, adding: "We’ve increased the national minimum wage, we’re building a new generation of council houses, we’ve extended free school meals to every kid in school that’s on universal credit, we’re paying our doctors and nurses our salaries they’ve been looking for for years”

The audience erupted in response to this point, as people shouted "rubbish".

Mr Jones continued: "We’ve increased spending on doctors for the last two years when the Tories wouldn’t even talk to doctors and nurses which is why they’re on strike.

Reform’s head of Doge UK added: “The British people are sick and tired of being gaslit, and the prime minister of this country does it, you can see it on his social media account all of the time, you are unwilling to be honest with the British people.

"You consistently prioritise foreign citizens over citizens of this country,” which received a large round of applause from the audience.
