BBC News star Luxmy Gopal made a huge career announcement after marking a big milestone in her career. The news anchor took to X – formerly Twitter – to share a massive achievement as she presented BBC News at Ten on a weekday for the first time ever.  Luxmy wrote: “An honour to have brought you the @BBCNews at Ten on a weekday for the first time. Which comes with the added treat of introducing my colleagues in the wall of fame! And a privilege to have co-presented with the brilliant Reeta who was anchoring from the field.”

Her co-star Reeta Chakrabarti was live on the ground at Heathrow Airport, where chaos and disruption were the buzzwords for the day after a fire at the North Hyde substation knocked out all power to the transportation hub yesterday (March 21). More than 1,000 flights were disrupted, with the airport shutting down for an entire day.

As for Luxmy, she has been working her way up the ranks from working as an investigative journalist for BBC’s Inside Out South East. She then moved on to work for BBC Look North, departing that role in 2024 when she was promoted to BBC London.

Luxmy said at the time of her departure: “I'm happy to say my @BBCLondonNews contract has been made permanent! I'll miss my lovely @BBCLookNorth team & the wonderful viewers who were so kind to me from my first bulletin there! I couldn't have asked for a better welcome to Yorkshire. I'll pop back to god's own soon!"

She’s also presented BBC Breakfast alongside Charlie Stayt.

Luxmy keeps her personal life very private, but she has shared bits and pieces of her home life on social media.

She’s mum to a Maine Coon cat named Cosmo, and has helped to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association, the Rob Burrow Centre for MND and the Rob Burrow Discretionary Fund through the Burrow Strictly Ball.
