BBC Radio 2 presenter Adam Porter has announced his departure after seven years on the station.

The broadcaster took to Instagram to share the news, revealing that he has decided to take voluntary redundancy after an incredible 24 year career at the BBC.

Adam, who has been a staple on Radio 2 and 6Music, will be leaving towards the end of March.

Posting on social media, he wrote: "After 24 years at the BBC, I have decided to take voluntary redundancy and will be leaving towards the end of March. I’ve loved working in the Radio Newsroom and being on Radio 2 and 6Music.

"I’ve worked with fantastic colleagues both in the newsroom and on air, and I’ve been there for some really big stories. But now is the time to move on to new waters. Stay tuned for plenty of boating content!"

His departure marks the end of an era, and many have expressed their sadness at the news.

Fellow BBC presenter OJ Borg shared a heartfelt tribute to Adam, posting a video from his send-off and writing: "We wave goodbye to @adamporternews from the big house (and the BBC itself) with something that sums up our heady late-night relationship over the last seven years."

Fans were quick to share their love for Adam, commenting on the news with messages of support.

One wrote: "Good luck Adam, you will be missed. Fitting send-off OJ." Another added: "Good luck to Adam, he’s a legend and will be missed by us on the midnight massive xx."

Many listeners recalled fond memories of Adam’s time on air, with one fan writing: "Will miss you Adam. Particularly loved when you and Clare covered Tina Daheley’s maternity leave on Zoe’s breakfast show. Will look forward to seeing what is next for you."

Another shared their shock at the announcement, saying: "Genuinely shocked by this news, but good on you for doing what is right for you. Definitely going to miss hearing your dulcet tones on the radio, but good luck to whatever you do in the future, Skipper."

While Adam is stepping away from his BBC role, his farewell message suggests that he will be embarking on new adventures, with boating content being teased for the future.
