The two comedy stars behind Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing have offered an insight into what the latest series has to offer after the BBC renewed it for another season.

Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse ponder life

Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse have provided some insight into what the latest series of their BBC Two fishing show has in store. The pair have revealed they will be delving into memories from their younger years for season eight of their hit show Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing.

It comes as the BBC confirmed to the press that the show had been renewed for another year, after season seven saw it extended its run to eight episodes for the first time. The popular series, produced by Owl Power, sees the comedy duo explore the UK’s countryside.

Fans are treated to stunning visuals and interesting stories as the pair open up about their lives and innermost thoughts while fishing in lakes, rivers and canals across the country. The latest series promises to have an even more personal feel to it, as each location Bob and Paul choose will be particularly relevant to the journeys their lives have taken.
Series seven, which is due to drop later this year, will see the pair visit Bedfordshire, North Norfolk and Northern Ireland. Offering an insight into what fans can expect, Paul quipped: “I can’t wait to get back to Gone Fishing with that other bloke in tow.”

Meanwhile, Bob alluded to the more intimate nature of the new season, stating: “I’m looking forward to visiting old haunts from my younger years as Paul and I will be travelling back in time for this series, going to fish in places which shaped our lives.”

BBC Commissioning Editor Patrick McMahon said: “We’re so happy to welcome Paul and Bob back for another slice of fishing, friendship and riverbank philosophy.

“Following their adventures and spending time in their company is always a treat, and this series promises to be the most personal and pleasurable yet”.

While Executive Producer Lisa Clark added: “I’m so delighted we can continue to showcase our beautiful country in the company of Paul, Bob and Ted of course.

“There’s so much more to explore for both man and beast with plenty of muck for Ted to roll in and Bob to fall over, while Paul quietly concentrates on the fishing in hand.”

Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing began in 2018 and has since gained the approval of viewers and critics alike.

All series of Gone Fishing are available to view now on BBC iPlayer.
