Good Morning Britain has been hit by a mass of Ofcom complaints after the set descended into chaos on May 30. Presenter Ranvir Singh tried to calm the situation as two guests got into a heated argument over the controversial dog breed XL Bullies.

Guests Mike Parry and Kay Taiwo appeared on the show with very different views on the animals, and they began shouting over each other after disagreeing on how to handle the breed. Mike had no qualms saying that the dogs should be put down - Much to the horror of Kay and many fans at home.

The "intense" debate kicked off when GMB host Richard Madeley asked Mike how he proposed to kill every XL bully in the country. He replied: "The only legal XL bully dogs in the country are registered. We know where they all are and they should go away."

Kay, who brought her dog to the ITV studio with her, argued that Mike "wasn't making sense". She interrupted him and said: "If you're talking about the size of a dog making you feel afraid, there's so many dogs you can feel afraid of.

"And if you're talking about the purpose of a breed, then you don't understand the purpose of an XL." But Mike fought back as he also raised his voice and yelled: "Why does that dog have jaws that are so strong that they break arms."

Kay added: "The dog has a muzzle because it's the law". Both guests continued shouting, trying to have their voices heard as Ranvir was forced to step in.

Sitting between the guests, she held her arms out to try and calm the situation, as she said: "Guys. Kay and Mike. Kay and Mike. It’s the debate that we’re going to keep having, isn’t it? But thank you both for coming here, you represent very different points of view."

Ranvir then cut to Joel Dommett, who wass standing in for Lorraine. Looking shell-shocked, the comedian said: "Wow. Woah. That was intense."

The debate comes as from February 1, it became a criminal offence to own the XL bully breed in England and Wales without an exemption certificate.

Anyone who owns one of the dogs must have had the animal neutered, have it microchipped and keep it muzzled and on a lead in public, among other restrictions.

The Government’s move to ban XL bullies followed a series of attacks. Last week saw XL bullies attack two boys in separate incidents in Hull and South Wales, while earlier this month a woman in her 50s was mauled to death by two of the dogs.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV and ITVX.
