Casualty: Dylan says Patrick is a danger

Casualty's Dylan Keogh (played by William Beck) finally had enough evidence of Patrick Onley's (Jamie Glover) incompetence to confront him in the latest episode of the long running BBC medical drama, and fans were delighted. The Clinical Lead has ruffled feathers ever since he arrived, and Dylan and colleague Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) have been trying to get to the bottom of his agenda.

Following an intriguing phone call, he told the irascible Patrick they needed to talk. Once they were alone in his office, Dylan laid his cards on the table, telling Patrick he was "a danger". "With respect, it is you that’s been trying to blame the team for your mistakes," Dylan fumed. "I've seen the data, the shift patterns that you worked correlated exactly with the serious patient incidences. It's like hand in glove."

A flustered Patrick responded: "Well let's think about that, shall we? Perhaps the reason that I have more serious incidents is because I have to take on the patients that you are incapable of treating. Or perhaps because, like that woman in there, people lie! And when I take on these people, I'm not worrying about what a spreadsheet looks like, I'm worrying about keeping them alive. Perhaps you should too," he spat at Dylan.

Dylan refused to be intimidated though, and kept his cool. Looking his superior in the eye, he made a bold statement. "Regardless of what I decide to do, or not to do, I think both of us know that you shouldn't be working on the floor until the board have been through this. I think you're a danger. Can you name me three procedures that you haven't delegated to a junior doctor?" Dylan enquired.

Clearly rattled, Dylan stuck to his guns and, later in the episode, told Patrick he was finished. After weeks of watching him cause division between the staff, fans were thrilled that it looked like the beginning of the end for the deeply unpopular character, and they took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their feelings.

One BBC viewer wrote: "I’m so happy that we are hopefully on the path to seeing the back of Patrick, and ghat Dylan and Stevie’s teamwork has been integral in his downfall #Casualty."(sic)

Another added: "Dylan is not just the better doctor but the better person. He could have gloated at Patricks downfall but he's more concerned about the patient #casualty."

"F*** yes Dylan, save the day! Maybe I was wrong and they'll hot shot Patrick falling apart rather than drag it out #casualty," a third fan exclaimed.

A forth praised: "Love how focused Dylan is on exposing that Patrick is a danger. #casualty."

Despite Dylan's efforts, Patrick's influence still loomed large elsewhere in the episode. He continued to target Rash Masum (Neet Mohan), believing he is the whistleblower, and even recruited his cousin, Tariq Hussein (Manpreet Bachu), to help expose him. This only added to Rash's distress and led to an upsetting confrontation with his cousin.

Away from the whistleblower drama, paramedic Jacob Masters (Charles Venn) was struggling while looking after his grandchild and trying to work. He implored Jan Jenning (Di Boctcher) to reduce his shifts. When she was unable to accomodate his request for a month, he resigned. Not willing to let such a valued staff member go, she came up with a solution to his childcare issues that worked for both of them.

And Teddy Gowan (Milo Clarke) finally decided to report his sexual assault, and opened up about his trauma to Jodi Whyte (Anna Chell).

Casualty is on BBC on Saturday nights with previous episodes available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
