Antiques Roadshow guest dealt blow after disappointing valuation of Marilyn Monroe coat
During a classic episode of Antiques Roadshow, expert Hilary Kay valued an interesting item made by Marilyn Monroe's clothes designer.
Antiques Roadshow: Marilyn Monroe coat valued
Hilary began working on the BBC show back in 1978 and is now the longest-serving member of their expert team. Working on the series for 45 years, she was perfect to inspect the garment.
She has made countless discoveries in both the United Kingdom and overseas. While speaking with the guest, it was revealed that sadly her mother died which is how she came into possession of the coat.
The woman said: “My mum recently died so it came to me then. The blue just hit me. It’s sort of an electric blue."
In response, Hilary replied: “It’s a very good design, very typical of Hollywood.” The stunning statement was eye-catching due to its loud pop of colour.

Hilary said: “The colour and the vibrancy and the style of it is so 1950s.”
It was revealed that it was made by the infamous Jean Louis, a French-American costume designer.
He was at the top of his game in the 1900s and even won an Academy Award for The Solid Gold Cadillac.

Marilyn Monroe was also on his list and he designed the dress that she wore when she sang Happy Birthday Mr President.
Hilary said: “It’s quite a thing, he was the designer.”
Pointing to the garment, she said that it had a “beautiful brocade, it’s synthetic, but a lovely traditional design.”
She went on to say: The dress designed by Jean Louis sold for £4.5 million”.
Sadly, the missing label would massively affect the value of it at auction.
The estimate came in at £500...£600 if it were to be sold."
