THE VICTIM began this evening on BBC One and started unravelling the mystery surrounding the brutal attack on Craig Myers - but fans think they have figured out who the would-be murderer was.
The Victim: Trailer for new drama starring John Hannah
The Victim began tonight and started the intricate story of Anna Dean’s (played by Kelly MacDonald) supposed attack on Craig Myers (James Harkness).
He was attacked on Halloween and was left for dead, but the person who attacked him under Anna’s commands has not yet been determined.
However when DI Grover (John Hannah) arrived at Anna’s house to investigate the attack, her daughter answered the door to her boyfriend, Danny (Andrew Rothney).
But when he found out the police were in the house, he quickly made an excuse to leave.
And the show’s viewers were instantly suspicious, and began jumping on Twitter to accuse Danny of being the attempted killer.
One wrote: “Did the boyfriend do it?! Sorry the boyfriend of the law student #TheVictim.”
Another said: “Very swift exit there, Danny… #TheVictim.”
While a third agreed: “Hmmmm Danny is acting a bit strange #TheVictim.”
And the accusations didn’t stop there, as another went on to say: “OK I am suspecting Danny and Anna’s Daughter #TheVictim.”
However some viewers believed Danny was simply a misdirect for the show.
Did the boyfriend do it?!
One explained: “Danny the red herring is made to look shiftier every scene. #TheVictim.”
The show’s creator Rob Williams recently spoke out about the storyline.
And, speaking to press including Express.co.uk, he explained that Anna embarks on an emotional journey throughout the show.
He said: “I think for both Kelly’s character, and all the characters in many ways, it was trying to trace their emotional journeys through the series was always a challenge.
“The story is 15 years down the line. It hasn’t worked. She doesn’t feel any better.
“And one of the big things that was of interest to me was what if the law doesn’t work.
“What do you do then? What is the difference between law and justice really?
“And I think for Anna, 15 years on, she’s probably tried most things and she just doesn’t feel any better.”
Viewers will have to wait and see whether Craig really is the person Anna thinks she is.
The Victim continues tomorrow at 9pm on BBC One.
