The Voice UK 2019: 'There's no way' Sir Tom Jones' act hits back at ‘fix’ claims
THE VOICE UK 2019 began last weekend and saw a slew of incredible acts trying their luck to be chosen by one of the four judges, and Sir Tom Jones picked someone he happened to know of.
The Voice: Jennifer Hudson takes swipe at Sir Tom Jones
The Voice UK 2019 began with an incredible display of emotion on Saturday night when Sir Tom Jones turned around for an act.
Peter Donegan, a singer songwriter from London, appeared on the show to sing one of his father’s songs.
His father was no less than the late Lonnie Donegan MBE, the legendary singer songwriter from the 60s.
Lonnie's writing credits include one of Sir Tom Jones’ most famous songs - "I’ll Never Fall In Love Again".
Peter and Sir Tom shared an emotional moment on Saturday’s show when they reminisced about Peter’s late father, and sang his incredible song.
Today, Peter arrived on This Morning to discuss the unbelievable audition, and hit back at those who claimed the event was "set up".
Hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes asked the singer how he would respond to the claims, to which he responded: “Basically there’s no way.
“Everything you saw there was recorded live. It was all me getting myself ready, and going out there.
“And when he asked me if I wanted to do that song I was blown away.”
Eamonn went on to reveal Sir Tom still has the song in his routine to this day.
“And so do I,” Peter added. “And the reason I became my dad’s piano player was so he could play it again.
“He had a lot of success with it, and it was on Elvis’ final album as well!”
Later on in the interview Peter spoke about the claims once again, adding his mother was “in tears” throughout the performance.
He added: “If anyone is in doubt about that clip look at my mother’s reaction. I had never met him before that night.”
Meanwhile fellow judge Jennifer Hudson revealed why she acts out her celebration routine during the additions.
When Jennifer enjoys an act she is wont to throw her shoes at contestants.
Speaking on Lorraine, she explained: “Music moves me in a special way and it’s a compliment if I take my shoe off and throw it at you if you’re performing. It’s like a standing ovation.
“I’m not throwing it at them, I’m throwing it for them.”
She added: “Yes, I’ve thrown quite a few shoes! It’s just I really don’t know how to define it… it’s a compliment though!”
The Voice UK 2019 continues Saturday at 8pm on ITV.
