The 30 miles of restricted road in London were brought in on July 25 and for the first six days only warnings were issued.

But after that the £130 fines realised £845,000, though there was 98 per cent compliance.

Garrett Emmerson, of Transport for London, said: “Games lanes were vital to get athletes, officials and the media to events on time.”

The Paralympic route network involves just 8.7 miles of lanes.
