Andrew Strauss quits ‘to be an MP’
ENGLAND cricket star Andrew Strauss, who quit as captain yesterday, could be set to stand as a Tory MP.
Strauss, 35, is being linked to the Corby by-election in Northamptonshire after MP Louise Mench quit.
Bookies Ladbrokes offered 16/1 on Strauss, who is quitting cricket altogether, being in Parliament by the next general election.
Last year he helped raise £25,000 for the Conservatives by offering himself as a golf partner at a party fund-raising auction.
Conservatives sources said that they were not aware that Strauss would be a candidate for them.
