Put that hosepipe away... or face £1,000 fine
HOUSEHOLDERS face being dragged to court and fined £1,000 for using a hosepipe from today.
Water firms have threatened to warn or prosecute anyone using a hose or sprinkler to refresh lawns, clean cars or fill pools.
“We have thousands of staff and contractors working in communities and they will ensure restrictions are followed,” warned Southern Water.
Residents are also being urged to spy on their neighbours after the driest two-year period for 128 years.

Almost 23 million people face a ban by seven firms: Anglian, Southern, South East, Sutton and East Surrey,Thames, Veolia East and Veolia Central.
But an online survey shows many customers remain defiant. One said: “Water companies aren’t doing enough to stop leaks. Stop raising prices and start investing and I might change my mind.” Another said: “Bills have risen for years, with no refunds.”
