Fabrice Muamba fights on
FABRICE MUAMBA has still not seen his three-year-old son Joshua, four days after waking up after his cardiac arrest at White Hart Lane on Saturday.
Doctors have described his recovery so far as “miraculous”, but having been “effectively dead” for 78 minutes, the recuperation process is bound to be a long and delicate one.
He is still surrounded by wires and machines in his intensive care bed at the London Chest Hospital and as a result, Muamba’s fiancee, Shauna, has decided to shelter their son from having to see his dad in hospital.
Visits have been restricted to just one minute and the enormity of the world’s reaction to 23-year-old Muamba’s plight has been kept from him until now, as he is not considered ready to process the information.

And while a normal life is at one end of a spectrum of possible outcomes
• Game abandoned as Fabrice Muamba collapses
His first words on coming round were to ask after his son, to the relief of doctors who feared for his long-term memory capabilities.
"And while a normal life is “at one end of a spectrum of possible outcomes”, according to Dr Sam Mohiddin, the cardiologist in charge of his care, he also admitted it was still too early to say just why Muamba’s heart stopped in the first place. He is likely now to have a defibrillator implant under the skin of his chest to monitor heart activity and administer shocks should it detect any life-threatening changes in its rhythm.
Bolton are planning a tribute to Muamba ahead of tomorrow’s home game against Blackburn, which will include a video montage of many of the tributes from round the world.
And the club have reassured Shauna they will look after the player, whatever happens in the long term.
