A scrummy wedding for Call The Midwife's Chummy
MILLIONS watched midwife Camilla “Chummy” Cholomondely-Browne finally get her man last night.
Viewers were treated to a marriage as well as births as the BBC smash-hit Call The Midwife was given a joyous finale.
The popular series, which has been attracting an audience of up to 10 million, featured the wedding of aristocratic midwife Camilla, played by comic star Miranda Hart.
Her character had been courting PC Noakes (Ben Caplan), despite opposition from her wealthy family, in the drama about nurses in the East End of London during the 1950s.
The pair met when Camilla – known as Chummy – accidentally knocked the officer off his feet while she was learning to ride a bicycle.

HOW MIRANDA HART HAS STOLEN THE HEARTS OF THE NATION
Their wedding marked the finale of what has been a runaway success for the BBC1 Sunday night drama, which was recommissioned for a second series after proving to be an instant hit with audiences.
However, bosses had something of a midwife crisis after ITV had scheduled an edition of Coronation Street in the same 8pm slot.
In the end BBC bosses moved Call The Midwife to a later time to avoid a clash with the soap. The series is based on the best-selling memoirs of midwife Jennifer Worth, who last year died of cancer aged 75.
She put forward Miranda for the role of her real-life friend Chummy after watching an episode of the award-winning star’s BBC sitcom, Miranda.
And the church where the episode was filmed held dances in its crypt in the Fifties attended by Ms Worth. Now Miranda, 39, seems to have switched effortlessly from TV comedy queen to queen of Sunday night drama.
