Boy aged 10 dies as he builds igloo
A BOY of 10 collapsed and died while playing in the snow with his friends.
Joshua Houlgate had been ecstatic at the first snowfall of the year. But as he built an igloo on Sunday he complained of feeling ill and collapsed in seconds.
His mother Sara, 35, gave mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, helped by a neighbour.
Joshua’s father Jeff joined in the frantic efforts in Castleford, west Yorks.
But he died a short time after arriving in hospital.
Last night heartbroken Mr Houlgate, 40, revealed how his son, who was autistic, was very excited about playing in the snow.
He said: “He ate his breakfast as fast as he could and rushed out.
“His friends said he just leant on a tree and said he didn’t feel well.
“Then he just collapsed. There was nothing anybody could do.”
A police spokeswoman said there were no suspicious circumstances
Sara said: “At the moment it appears as though he has had a fit.”
A police spokeswoman said there were no suspicious circumstances and a post mortem would be carried out.
A 60-year-old man froze to death in a park in Hull, east Yorkshire. His family have been informed. Karl Turner, MP for Hull East, said: “This tragic case could have been prevented.”
