Boris makes one Elle of a cover boy
HE'S not your typical cover star.
But this month Boris Johnson has been welcomed into the arms of the fashion crowd by appearing on the cover of glossy women’s magazine, Elle.
The Mayor of London appears on the limited edition cover to celebrate London Fashion Week’s 25th anniversary this month.
The floppy-haired 43-year-old poses on the cover in his usual dishevelled suit and appears surrounded by The Clash’s London Calling lyrics.
He also penned this month’s Editor’s letter, which has previously only been written by editor-in-chief Lorraine Candy and designer Donatella Versace.
He said: “Lorraine Candy took what for many might seem a huge risk. Who would have expected me to grace an Elle cover - or any other fashion magazine?
“The capital leads the world in producing innovative designers, so I'm thrilled to have been involved in this special issue celebrating 25 years of London Fashion Week.”
Eleven covers have been produced for the special issue, they feature singer Lily Allen, designer Dame Vivienne Westwood, rocker Pete Doherty.
Ms Candy said: "It took six months to put this special collector’s issue together. Which other monthly magazine could get Boris Johnson, Lily Allen, Pete Doherty and Dame Vivienne Westwood in the same issue?
“It’s something only Elle can do. Boris’s cover and editor’s letter is unique - he is the third ‘blonde’, after myself and Donatella Versace, to take on the editor’s chair in Elle’s 21-year history!
Mr Johnson, who is the first male to pose alone for an Elle cover, joins the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Sienna Miller, Lindsay Lohan, Madonna, Emma Watson and Gwyneth Paltrow as a cover star.
Boris Johnson’s Editor’s Letter appears in the October issue of ELLE Magazine, on sale Wednesday 2nd September.
