Should prison officers have a degree?
PRISON officers should be educated to degree level to help them gain the necessary skills and knowledge for the job, a charity said today.
The Howard League for Penal Reform said the eight weeks of training for officers was not enough and their job should instead be on par with professions like teaching and nursing.
But today the Prison Officers Association (POA) slammed the idea as "naive and narrow-minded," adding that personal qualities made a good prison officer.
