Pakistan election results update: Who won the Pakistan election today? LIVE results
POLLS have closed in Pakistan's historic general election, following a campaign which was marred by violence as cricketer Imran Khan’s party goes against ex-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s party. Here are the latest results.
Pakistan election: Ballot boxes are being emptied and counted
Early projections from four local TV channels all put Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ahead, estimating it would win between 107 and 120 of 272 elected seats available.
Sharif’s outgoing ruling party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), was estimated at between 42 and 69. However these projections were based on only about 20 percent of votes counted.
Shehbaz Sharif, the leader of PML-N said his party “wholly rejects” the election results because of irregularities.
He wrote on Twitter: “Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) wholly rejects the results of General Elections 2018 due to manifest and massive irregularities.
“Form 45 was not given to our agents, results were stopped and votes were counted in the absence of our poll agents. This is both unbearable and unacceptable.”
Shehbaz told reporters in Lahore: “We completely reject this result, completely.”
The Election Commission of Pakistan Secretary said the results will be shared as soon as they are in.
Babar Yaqoob told reporters: “We want to give you accurate results and we will have them as soon as they are in.”
The third major party, the Pakistan Peoples Party, also complained that its polling agents were asked to leave during the vote count in a number of voting centres.
PPP’s Bilabial Bhutto is also contesting the result. He says that he still hasn’t received official results from any constituency from where he contested.
He wrote on Twitter: “It’s now past midnight and I haven’t received official results from any constituency I am contesting my myself.
“My candidates complaining polling stations across the country. Inexcusable and outrageous.”
More than 105 million people registered to vote in this election, at 85,000 polling stations.
There are 110 registered political parties and 3,765 National Assembly candidates.
Pakistan Television, the state tv, has put the PTI in the lead on 105 seats with the PML-N ahead on 71 seats after partial results.
Pakistan’s National Assembly comprises a total of 342 members, of which 272 are directly elected, whereas the rest - 60 seats are reserved for women and 10 for religious minorities.
These are selected later through proportional representation among parties with more than five percent of the vote.
