Four injured after medical helicopter CRASHES near motorway in Chicago
A MEDICAL helicopter has crashed Saturday night near a motorway on Chicago's Far South Side, the state's Fire Department confirmed.
The crash was reported shortly after 9pm local time (2am GMT) near the spot where I-57 and I-94 meet in the Roseland neighbourhood.
Four people were injured; one was in critical condition.
One of the occupants was a patient en route to a local hospital.
Witnesses said they saw the helicopter moving in a spiral course out of control and on fire before it eventually crashed.
According to a Federal Aviation Authority statement, the pilot made a "mayday" radio call from the Eurocopter 135 air ambulance at about 9.15pm local time (2.15am GMT).
It added the helicopter crashed shortly after.
The National Transportation Safety Board is currently investigating the crash.
No-one on the ground has been reported to be hurt.
It is still unknown where the helicopter was coming from or where it was going to.
The cause of the crash is also not clear.
