Christian crowds mark Palm Sunday
Christians holding palm fronds marked Palm Sunday in Jerusalem, celebrating Jesus Christ's triumphant entry into the holy city two millennia ago.
Pilgrims and local Christians came to Jerusalem's Old City to attend mass at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, traditionally held to be the site of Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection.
Standing outside the ancient church, Friar Bonaventure Lucien of Boston, Massachusetts in the US called it a "once-in-a-life experience".
He said it is a "singular privilege" to see where Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey as recounted in the Bible, greeted by cheering crowds bearing palm fronds.
Later today pilgrims plan to hold a traditional procession into Jerusalem's Old City from the Mount of Olives, retracing Jesus' route.
