Sony World Photography Award winners 2018 revealed
THE SONY World Photography Award winners for the Open and National competition have been announced - see the world’s best images from across the globe.
The 2018 Sony World Photography Award winners for the Open and National compeition were announced on Tuesday with 10 stand-out images being chosen from a staggering 320,000 submissions.
The winners of the contemporary photography competition were selected by an expert panel of judges who saw hundreds and thousands of entries from across the world.
Photographers worldwide can enter the Open competition with their best single image from a variety of subjects including architecture, street photography and wildlife.
Chair of the judges Zelda Cheatle said: “Judging the Open competition and National Awards allowed me to discover high calibre international work of great interest. In choosing the winners, the images all had to have something special - whether it be composition, impact, skill, a portrayal of a unique event or informing in a new way. Above all else, each winner had to be an exceptional photograph.”
London photographer Nick Dolding won the prestigious award with his portrait entitled ‘Emile’. His work will go on show at Somerset House between 20 April and 6 May with the other Sony World Photography Award winners.

The Open category winners receive the latest digital imaging equipment from Sony with the Professional and overall winners to be announced on 19 April.
